Ingredients
4
1 & half cups Rice
half cup Urad dal
2 tbsp Chana dal
half teaspoon Fenugreek seeds
half cup Poha
Salt as per taste
Water as per needed
Tips
Fermentation time may vary based on climate conditions, so keep an eye on the batter's volume.
To enhance flavor, add finely chopped vegetables like carrots or peas to the batter before steaming.
Serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar for a complete South Indian breakfast experience.
Directions
Rinse the rice, urad dal, chana dal, and fenugreek seeds, and soak them together in water for 6-8 hours.
After soaking, strain the water and grind each ingredient separately into a fine paste. Mix them together in a bowl.
While grinding the dals, add washed poha to ensure a fluffy texture.
Cover the mixture and let it ferment for 8-10 hours or until it doubles in volume.
Adjust the consistency of the batter by adding water if needed, then add salt to taste.
Grease the idli moulds with oil or ghee.Pour the batter into the moulds, filling them about 3/4th full.
Steam the idlis in a steamer for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Allow the idlis to cool for a few minutes before removing them from the moulds.
Servings: Makes approximately 16-20 idlis.
