half cup Yellow moong dal
1 piece Tomato , Chopped
half teaspoon Turmeric
2 cups Water
2 tbsp Oil
1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
quarter teaspoon Hing
6 pieces Curry leaves
Salt as per taste
half teaspoon Sugar
Tips
For added flavor, you can also temper the dal with cumin seeds and garlic.
Adjust the spice levels according to your preference by adding green chilies or red chili powder.
To enhance the nutritional value, you can add vegetables like spinach or bottle gourd.
Directions
Wash the moong dal thoroughly under running water, then soak it for 1-2 hours.
In a pressure cooker, combine the soaked dal, chopped tomato, turmeric, 1 tsp oil, and 2 cups of water. Close the lid and cook for about 3 whistles.
In a separate pot, heat 2 tbsp of oil. Add mustard seeds, hing, and curry leaves. Let them splutter.
Once the pressure is released from the cooker, open it and transfer the cooked dal to the pot.
Mix well and adjust the consistency by adding water if necessary. Add salt and sugar, then cook for an additional 5 minutes.
Garnish with fresh coconut and coriander before serving hot with rice.
Notes
Avoid excessive consumption if you have kidney stones or uric acid-related issues.
