Nirphanas, also known as Breadfruit, is a versatile fruit packed with nutrients and flavor. This simple yet delicious dish, Nirphanas Kaape, is a popular preparation in many coastal regions. Its unique texture and taste make it an ideal candidate for various culinary creations.
Ingredients
4
1 teaspoon Malvani masala
quarter cup Semolina
2 tbsp Rice flour
half teaspoon Turmeric powder
1 teaspoon Salt
1 piece Breadfruit (nirphanas)
Tips
Ensure the breadfruit slices are of uniform thickness for even cooking.
Use fresh breadfruit for the best texture and flavor.
Directions
Cut the whole Nirphanas/Breadfruit lengthwise, parallel to the core.
Peel the skin, remove the core, and slice the breadfruit into thin pieces.
Place the slices in a colander and wash them thoroughly with cold water.
Soak the slices in saltwater for 10 minutes to enhance the flavor.
In a bowl, mix 1 tsp Malvani Masala, 0.5 tsp Turmeric Powder, and 1 tsp Salt.
Coat the breadfruit slices evenly with this spice mixture.
Allow the slices to marinate for 30 minutes to absorb the flavors.
Combine 0.25 cup Semolina and 2 tbsp Rice Flour in a separate dish.
Dredge the marinated breadfruit slices in the semolina-rice flour mixture, ensuring an even coating.
Heat oil in a skillet over medium flame.
Fry the coated slices in batches, cooking each side for 3 minutes or until golden and crispy.
Tip: To achieve a perfect coating, leave the slices untouched for 3 minutes on each side. This will create a crisp layer while allowing the oil to seep through the sides.
Drain the fried slices on absorbent paper towels to remove excess oil.
Serve warm and enjoy the crispy Nirphanas Kaape with your favorite chutney or dip.
Notes
Individuals with kidney issues should avoid breadfruit due to its high potassium content.
Those with gluten sensitivity should be cautious, as semolina is a gluten-containing ingredient.
