1 inch Ginger
4 pieces Garlic
1 teaspoon Coriander seeds
half teaspoon Turmeric powder
2 tbsp Red chili powder or malvani masala
6 pieces Teppal or tirphal
2 pieces Green chillies
2 pieces Onion
half teaspoon Tamarind paste or kokum
2 tbsp Fresh coriander
half kg Surmai (kingfish)
2 tbsp Oil
2 cups Water
Salt as per taste
Tips
Adjust the level of spice according to your preference by increasing or decreasing the red chili powder or Malvani masala.
Add more water if you prefer a thinner curry.
Use the freshest ingredients, especially fish, for the best taste.
Marinate the fish for at least 30 minutes for the best flavor.
Serve with steamed rice or traditional Indian breads like chapati or bhakri.
Directions
In a mixer, combine fresh grated coconut, ginger, garlic, coriander seeds, turmeric powder, red chili powder or Malvani masala, Sichuan pepper, green chilies, onion, tamarind paste or kokam, coriander leaves, and water. Blend into a smooth paste.
Heat oil in a pan and sauté chopped onion until golden brown.
Add the prepared paste to the pan, along with 2 cups of water and salt. Mix well and bring to a boil.
Once the mixture is boiling, add the marinated Surmai (marinated with turmeric, red chili, ginger-garlic paste, and salt) pieces. Cook for 5-6 minutes until the fish is cooked through.
Serve hot with steamed rice or crusty bread. Enjoy the authentic flavors of Malvani cuisine!
