2 pieces Tomatoes
half cup Fresh coconut
4 pieces Red chillies
2 tsp Coriander seeds
1 teaspoon Cumin
4 pieces Black Pepper
5 pieces Garlic Cloves
1 inch Ginger
half teaspoon Turmeric
1 teaspoon Tamarind paste
three quarters cup Water
2 tbsp Oil
3 pieces Tirphala
1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
1 piece Chopped onion
5 pieces Curry leaves
2 pieces Green chillies
Salt as per taste
1 teaspoon Jaggery
Tips
Adjust the spice level according to your preference by increasing or decreasing the number of red chillies.
For a smoother texture, strain the saar through a sieve after blending.
Freshly grated coconut works best for authentic flavor, but you can use desiccated coconut as a substitute.
Directions
In a mixer grinder, add tomatoes, fresh coconut, red chillies, coriander seeds, cumin, black pepper, garlic, ginger, turmeric, tamarind paste, and water. Blend until you get a smooth paste.
Heat oil in a pan. Add tirphala, mustard seeds, and cumin seeds. Let them crackle.
Add chopped onion, curry leaves, and green chillies. Saute until onions turn translucent.
Pour the prepared paste into the pan. Add water, salt, and jaggery. Mix well.
Let it cook for 10 minutes, adjusting the consistency as desired.
Serve hot with steamed rice or enjoy as a standalone soup.
